How to setup hibernate on a desktop PC

I spent too much time trying to understand what the "plans" could be in the Power Options and how to reactivate the Hibertate option in the Shutdown menu, so here we go, just do this :

Activate hibernation : powercfg -h on in an elevated cmd command window.
  1. Create a shortcut, set it to "C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0" and name it Hibernate.
  2. Edit its properties, click change icon, look for icons in C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll and select the one you like.

Hibernation will create a file C:\hiberfil.sys which can be as big as your RAM size.
